Apples Never Fall by Liane Moriarty
4.0

So torn on this one. I LOVED it until Joy returned home and then I was so confused as to why THAT was why Joy went missing for 3 weeks. It felt a little rushed and like LM was backed into a corner and had to write her way out of it—like she actually decided against killing off her beloved darling and then plopped her down at a unplugged retreat and conveniently her dog ate the note telling her family where she went?

No. I did not like that part but I do love a family drama and I do love the way that LM writes chaos. It could have been about 100 pages less but the details were not annoying or too much and I really did like it I just wish the ending had been a little more impactful.

ETA: i want to grab every single author by the shoulder and shake them until they believe me: WE DONT NEED TO ADD COVID TO BOOKS ANYMORE WE ALL HAVE TRAUMA FROM THAT TIME PERIOD NO NEED TO CONTINUE TO BRING IT UP
