The Shadowed Land by Signe Pike

3.5

UPDATE: Increasing this to a 3.5 now knowing there will be another book, which I was unaware of at the time I read this. Still too many loose ends but since there is still more story to tell, my opinion is improved.

To be clear: this is not a bad book. I still enjoyed myself well enough, and itโ€™s a well-done work of historical fiction. But Iโ€™m disappointed after how incredible book 1 was.

The direction of this just got too unwieldy with every additional POV that we got. Book 2 already struggled with the direction and pacing due to this, and unfortunately book 3 continued that trend and had even MORE povโ€™s. ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜ I regularly found myself wondering where the through line was, and I often not in the mood to continue the story for that reason. The ending felt rushed and I felt like there were lots of unnecessary loose ends due to the number of characters that were added with little to no payoff. ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ Bummer because this could have been an all time favorite series for me.
