Warriors Don't Cry by Melba Pattillo Beals

emotional informative medium-paced

It’s really hard to write this review. Reading this book to better understand what their day to day meant over articles or history textbooks was definitely not an easy task. To be able to feel like there was a good sense of community between white and black people, but to suddenly not be welcomed at grocery stores or other spots because you’re the first to integrate (both white and black).

It helps me understand it took a lot of brave people to get to where we are. When I was younger, I felt like looking at the textbook image of the Little Rock nine they felt so grown up and adults. These kids were at least 10 years younger than I am now. It’s sad to think how these young kids were getting harassed, death threats, abused daily.
