Fushigi Yûgi: The Mysterious Play, Vol. 1: Priestess by Yuu Watase

2.0

Yuu Watase's artwork is so gorgeous that it makes me want to weep, and gets one star solely for that. However, I wasn't really feeling this series. I don't believe in this "love at first sight" bullshit Miaka has for Tamahome, or Hotohori for Miaka. I just don't. The only romantic relationship which has an explanation is the fake one between Tamahome and Nuriko, since Nuriko is a conniving fucking nutcase and isn't actually in love with Tamahome.

There were blatant spelling mistakes as well, which irritated me. Also, Yui managed to get into the book the first time around. Whatever happens to Miaka in Ancient China affects Yui in Present-Day Japan. Something tells me that Yui is the true Priestess of Suzaku, but that's just my theory.

Also, does Yui seem a little Mary-Sue-ish to anyone else? I mean, she doesn't have to study for exams because she's THAT smart that she just remembers and understands everything right off the bat? I fucking wish.

Maybe I'll continue this series one day, just to see how it pans out. Until then, I've got better books to read.
