Little House in the Big Woods by Laura Ingalls Wilder

4.0

She thought to herself, "This is now."
She was glad that the cosy house, and Pa and Ma and the fire-light and the music, were now. They could not be forgotten, she thought, because now is now. It can never be a long time ago.

I'm finally reading this book after years of telling myself I would - I was pretty much named after the author, and I'm a huge reader, so it's surprising it's taken me this long. I don't really have any plans to continue with the rest of the series, but this was a fine read. There's not too much of an overarching plot, at least in this first installment; it's more just a recount of one year in Laura's life growing up. I did like all the details about how they hunted and created their own belongings, just all the stuff that we take for granted now. I can't believe how much time they had to dedicate to tasks that are so simple nowadays! It's really cool reading that kind of firsthand account from a kid's perspective.
