Tropes- friends to lovers
Representation: Viola is a trans main character, Gracewood has a disability from the war, uses a cane, queer side characters
CW: addiction, alcoholism, abelistic language, and some mis-gendering when talking about Viola pre- transition. Suicidal ideation

I loved so much about This book. The friendship and love between Viola and Gracewood is just beautiful. They were friends for years, torn apart by war and Gracewood thought his best friend died and it impacted him.

Viola realized how unhappy she was and came into her own and used the death to become alive in a way that felt right for her. But seeing Gracewood again is painful.

The longing, the tension, friendship and just overall swoon worthy moments made me happy. Only part that made me confused was the plot line with his sister and a kidnapping but outside of that it was a really good book.
