Mr. Midshipman Hornblower by C.S. Forester
4.0

What a Good. I was curious to see how this would go since the TV series changed things so drastically and I was nervous I wouldn't like it, but it turned out well. Honestly I zoomed through each chapter with ease and I feel like this definitely could've been a quick read had I had a few hours to set aside.

I liked the introspection on Horatio's part, though as a matter of characterization we don't get nearly as in depth re: the emotional side as I'm used to. Hornblower is very much logos, through and through. As the character whose honour and devotion to duty inspired Jim Kirk, though, I can't help but love him. He's truly a good man, the sort people should aspire to be in mind if not necessarily in action. Recommend for any Trekkies, history nerds, or people who like adventures on the high seas!
