This book has some interesting elements. I enjoyed reading it. I want to see where the story is going and will be reading the next one. I liked the trials. Lor is an interesting character, I like her spirit. Having the dual point of view was not my favourite, but I appreciate seeing into Nadir’s life as he will clearly be important later.
My biggest problem with the book is how clunky the amalgamation of other stories is. This book needed to finesse out the elements it wanted to combine and bring a bit more of its own spin. I like that the trials are different and I can appreciate that there’s only so many ways to put things together, but it needed something all its own. I also didn’t like the instant love and genre confusion where the story reads like YA but also has sex scenes.
