Midnight Sun
by Stephenie Meyer
I had read the leaked version years ago, and found it intriguing. I finished this book in two days - well, it's less than 700 pages - and found myself enjoying it greatly. It's not War and Peace, okay, but it has characters and world-building that I enjoyed the first time around. Edward's POV is much deeper and richer. You get huge amounts of back-story, because he can read minds and his adopted sister can see futures, and that alone adds untold depth to the original story.
Plus, you can see how Edward's "old-fashioned" values collide with the values of today. He is aware that the world has changed around him, and that conflict makes for a good story too.
I had a good time - I didn't want to surface back into the real world. Highborw literature? maybe not, but I had fun, and the story made me happy in the time of COVID. And that's what I ask for.
