This was definitely not a series for kids. I probably would not have understood as much as I did if I had read it back then, so I’m glad I read it now!
To be honest I didn’t know much about these books at all so when the real theme behind all the metaphors started to get clear, I wasn’t expecting it at all and the entire series became a lot more meaningful to me
