When I first started The Lost Love Songs of Boysie Singh, I didn't quite know what I expected from the story. It started a bit slow, but once it took off, it did not let up!
I'm actually glad we knew Boysie was dying at the end, because my GOD that man was a MENACE!  I felt for every single person that had to interact with Boysie, even Chunksee. He never had any good role models to look up to. I pretty much hated everyone in this story except the little bai and maybe Rosie. She really was just minding her business.

This is the first novel I've read by Ingrid Persaud and the first by a Trinidadian author as well. It exposed me to the meld between island and Indian cultures that occurred in the country. I started looking up several of the phases and foods but caught on pretty quickly based on the context in which a phase as used.

I didn't realize until the acknowledgements that this was a fictionalized account of a real man! Overall a great read.
