I have heard SO many people talk about this series, and finally decided to see what the hype is about. I was not expecting to fall in love with the story, but boy did this suck me in!
"The Risk" is the first installment in the Mindf*ck series. We follow two points of view in this novella: Lana and Logan. Lana is a serial killer, hellbent on exacting her revenge on those who have destroyed her life. Logan is an FBI agent who is unbelievably good at his job. Lana knows she should stay away from Logan for so many reasons, but she can't help but feel drawn to him, and after spending her life alone, she wants to feel something real.
This book is VERY graphic. There are some possibly disturbing scenes of torture and some very traumatizing flashbacks to highlight what happened to Lana, and why these quests for revenge are so important to her. There are also some explicit sexual scenes.
I had heard that this series was amazing, but the first two novellas were not the best, but I LOVED this first installment, so I cannot wait to see where the series goes from here. Lana is such an interesting point of view to read from because what she is doing is so wrong, but she is doing it for good reasons. This morally gray attitude makes her both complex and relatable. Logan is also so interesting because he is such a good guy, and SO smart. I am so curious to see if he finds out about Lana, and what he does about it!
