The Lincoln Highway by Amor Towles
2.0
1.5 rounded up. Some parts of this book are quite good really. Bordering on great. It's certainly more consistent than a gentleman in Moscow. However, it's also exceptionally trite. The characters fall in a protracted, obvious manner. More importantly. I don't take kindly to shock value endings. At the end of it all, it's an ugly story. Nothing redeeming about it. I do therefore begrudge the time spent on it when I was needed elsewhere. An absorbing read isn't always redemptive, but shouldn't be as pointlessly tragic as this one.
