Holdout by Jeffrey Kluger
3.0

I love me a "stuck alone in space" story. There's so much room for tension between the confinement, the loneliness, the boredom, and the constant threat of violent inescapable death.

However, HOLDOUT is... Kinda boring, at least the parts in space. There's a really great opening sequence as we set the scene for Wally being alone in space, but after that there's not a whole lot of tension. With an astronaut on the cover, I'll admit I wanted all the drama to be in space. Instead, all of the fear, the tension, the drama is on the ground in the Brazilian rainforest. Which, fine, but there's an astronaut on the cover! There was also a lot of political nonsense that I didn't care about.

Basically, this book left me feeling a bit underwhelmed and I kept speeding up the audiobook playback so I could get to the end and start another book. I didn't dislike it enough to DNF but it's not one I would necessarily recommend.
