Daughter of Deep Silence
by Carrie Ryan
2.5 stars.
Daughter of Deep Silence was was a fast paced, enjoyable read. The audio book was well read and the book itself seemed well written. There was nothing clearly wrong with the book, but it was definitely lacking something.
The plot was okay, I can't say I really got invested in it. It really was carried by Francis, her journey seemed to be the focus. While I did find it interesting, I often found her decisions aggravating. But of course that's what kept me reading.
Other than Francis, I can't say much for the other characters. I felt they were just there to fill in roles without proper development. There were the dead parents, the ex boyfriend, the nice friend, and so on. They didn't ever become more than that.
The ending overall I found completely unsatisfying. While it did tie up all the loose ends it left you feeling like the whole thing had been a waste of time. Now that is, in some ways, the point of it but it still left me disappointed.
I would still recommend this book if you like YA mysterys. Not for me though.
