A Dance with Dragons
by George R.R. Martin
Martin still knows how to write, I'll give him that. Unfortunately it feels like this story is getting too big. I only care for maybe three characters out of what feels like over a dozen. Some chapters I skimmed. Dany isn't as strong as she used to be, it feels like she's immature and impatient and unwise. I still think Martin has issues writing women who aren't killed/shamed/stupid/fail at what they want to do. There's Arya, I guess, but I don't much care about her anymore. Sansa was nowhere in the book. Not really.
Feast For Crows was still worse than this, but this truly feels like a middle book. Many chapters I slogged through, and the characters I wanted to read about never seemed in abundance (there were, what, three Bran chapters?). I almost want to wash my hands of these books entirely, but there's still some characters I want to read about. At least, I hope they're still around.
