I finished this book mostly out of mild curiosity of whether it would get more interesting towards the end. It did, but not enough to make up for the rest of it. The characters are imaginative, but their motives and decisions aren’t particularly believable. I don’t really care about what happens to them. The whole plotline comes across as unrealistic and the prose isn’t terribly well-written. If this was book of the year, they really mustn’t have had much to choose from.
