sort of underwhelmed by this. the first portion of the book set a nice tone for the story, but i couldn't really connect with any of the other characters afterwords. i expected more horror and the writing was a little too plain for me. the overall theme of grief could have been more compelling if it was more focused on the gruesome transformation of monstrilio and his similarities to the child rather than the characters' romantic and sexual relationships. waahhh
