Men Explain Things to Me by Rebecca Solnit

dark informative inspiring reflective sad fast-paced

3.5

There is no question, Solnit is brilliant. Of the essays included in this small collection, Woolf’s Darkness is one I know I will be returning to often. Almost every page has a sticky note with quotes for future contemplation. That said, it didn’t really dig into the supposed theme of this collection (the silencing of women) in a way that felt purposeful. This was an ongoing issue, whereby the theme introduced in the preface isn’t really carried throughout the following essays. Which is fine, the writing is strong and it will make you think, just in a disjointed way.
