Faking It by Jennifer Crusie

3.0

*sigh*  I knew there was a reason I'd read Welcome to Temptation multiple times and this book only twice.  I just couldn't remember what it was until I reread this book.  Don't get me wrong--I love screwball comedies, so this story should've been right up my alley.  But there were a few too many things going on and I couldn't keep up.  There was Eve, who moonlighted as "Louise"--was she truly suffering from DID, or was she just putting on a disguise so she could do whatever she wanted three or four nights a week?  Gwen's bored.  Ford, who might be a hitman.  Who the hell is Thomas the Caterer, really?  The whole "Homer and Scarlet" subplot.  Nadine's ongoing search to figure out what she wanted to do.  Andrew and Jeff popping in from time to time.  The ongoing subplot with Clea, Mason, and Rabbit--and if that wasn't enough, here comes Davy's father as well!!  It was just too much.

But for me, the cherry on top of this overloaded sundae was the goof Crusie made with who portrayed Liz in The Philadelphia Story.  It wasn't Celeste Holm, it was Ruth Hussey, which wouldn't be a big deal except that it becomes an affectionate in-joke between Tilda and Davy, so it's referenced several more times throughout the book.  Every time he called her "Celeste," I clenched my teeth and said, "NO, he should be calling her Ruth, because that's who was in the movie!"  The kicker is that I remember listening to a podcast Jennifer Crusie did about movies, and one of them was The Philadelphia Story!!!  Argh.  I'm not saying this book wasn't enjoyable at times, but there was just too much even without this glaring error that in the end, I couldn't overlook.
