The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller

5.0

I went into this book not expecting to love it, but I LOVED it.
This is a retelling of Achilles and Patroclus, but while the relationship between the two was never really expressly stated as being a romantic relationship in The Iliad, is is in this retelling.
The story begins when they are children and goes to the end. The story was beautifully and richly written. I can't think of anything that I didn't really enjoy to be honest. It touched on a lot of other elements of the mythology to give you context but not taking away from the them as a couple.
We all know how it ends, but the way she wrote the ending just destroyed my soul but I loved every second of it. I keep thinking about it a few days after I have finished it. A love story for the ages
If you're into mythology, you really should read this book.
