I... don't even know how to rate this book. I was not expecting to have THAT much of an impact on me - this may be one of the best written and structured books I have EVER read!
Reva's blend of 'non-fiction' and fiction is mindboggling. I have NEVER had to doubletake at an audiobook before!
The book blends the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, Ukraine's marriage industry, and... snail conservation(?) into a zany and impactful story. I found myself enthralled throughout, especially when it came to the Russian invasion portion. While reading about the invasion, my mind kept going back to WWII-era times. But no, the story came and reminded you that this is CURRENTLY HAPPENING. It's easy to think about this horrible thing happening in a far away world, affecting nameless people - but no, this is a modern war, happening to friends and family across the world.
There is something for everyone here, either in the way of entertainment or learning. As an American, this book gave me a jolt of much needed global awareness.
