The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah

5.0

You know those type of books where after you finish you just need to take a minute to digest what you read.. This was that kind of book… This book tells the story of two sisters, Vianne and Isabelle, who both live in France right when the Nazis begin to take over. Vianne along with her daughter go through so much as a German captain is ordered to live with them.. As time goes on Vianne is required to make more difficult and harder decisions to keep her and daughter alive. Meanwhile we have Isabelle, a rebellious teen trying to figure out who she is. When she learns of a group, The Resistance, who are working to undermine the Germans she stops at nothing to join and do her part to save as many as she can.
Kristin Hannah weaves together a beautifully written story of friendship, love, and courage. The POV alternates between Vianne and Isabelle and so we are able to see the two different yet similar stories of two brave and courageous young women risking their lives day after day. I absolutely love the way Kristin Hannah writes. The imagery she gives and descriptions throughout novel are simply phenomenal. I fell in love with both sisters and their stories almost immediately. Both sisters go through so much and they have major character developments. Vianne—oh my heart broke for her so many times. She was so strong and brave. Isabelle— I admire her character so much. She truly looked danger in the face to save others and put their needs before her own. This was such a memorable book and one I will never forget! This is your sign to add this to your TBR, buy it at your local bookstore, or check it out from the library! So worth the read!
