At 25 hours long, finishing the audiobook of The Devils feels like a great book accomplishment. I laughed out loud, got drug through the muck with the cast, and cheered them on. For this length of epic fantasy, I suspect my attention would be more stuck in the story with the physical book to read. The misfit band of cast traveling is large, and I kept getting their identities and names mixed up. The narrative moves around between character pov while on the quest, which reminded me of LOTR but did not help my confusion. Before reading book 2, I'll need to reread book 1. Sunny is my favorite character thanks to her attitude and charm outranking her size. I really hope she returns for book 2. Alex leaves a lot to be desired in a hero, but that lacking also seems to he the point of her character and humanizes her. One huge twist left me questioning everything. The concept of gender-swapping Christianity and specifically Catholicism is genius; hopefully, the rest of the trilogy explores this more. A+ on the chapter titles. More of that across books, please.

Thank you to libro.fm for access to this book. Amazing quality narration.
