my problem with miller's batman is largely the extreme mischaracterisation. he paints batman as a bloodthirsty sadist, one that ignores due process and uses a gun (batman would never use a gun. in any universe).
the story is poorly written and deliberately confusing to follow. the art doesn't convey meaning nor does it look nice, in fact detracting from the flow of the comic. old, bitter, cranky batman is (in my personal view) not my batman nor the way batman was intended to be written. also the timeline is really weird-- it's never established how old batman, alfred, and the commissioner are in relation to each other.
his ultra bulky huge armour suit is nothing like anything batman would design. batman in other verses goes out of his way to sacrifice armour for agility, he would never be this bulked up.
the contrived philosophical questions are not "deep" in any way and the pacing of the comic ruins any possible sophisticated consideration of a moral dilemma. the handling of the anti-government message is very clumsy and overboard. also there is no reason for batman to wrap a body in an american flag. this is literally the opposite of his mysterious, dark, untraceable ethos.
the only redeeming value of this miller batman run was carrie as robin.

tldr; horrible writing, plot, characterisation, artwork. physically nauseating in every way. a huge effort to read. most overrated comic ever, only read for historical value.
