Seventy Times Seven: A True Story of Murder and Mercy by Alex Mar

challenging dark emotional informative sad slow-paced

5.0

Heartbreaking and powerful and so well-written (and well-researched! The notes at the end basically constitute their own chapter and are well worth a read)
I appreciated how Alex Mar brought out the nuance and complexity of the situation and of the people in it, and how she broadened the scope to pull in the systemic, cultural and political influences on this terrible crime
I wept at the end for Paula and for the Pelkes and for all the fighters and believers in this book. Beautifully done, and highly recommend reading it
