The People of Sparks by Jeanne DuPrau

3.0

For some reason, I’m finding myself reading these really nostalgic early 2000s and sometimes 90s books even though I’m like decades late, and I’m choosing now to jump on the fandom wagon. I don’t know, I just find that funny. Anyway, I really enjoyed reading the first book, but in the second book, as I feel a lot of people can agree with, the main problem I had with it was the fact that the only times Lena and Doon interacted was parts of the beginning and the end. The entire middle they were apart and doing completely different things, which is a little disappointing given how enjoyable it was seeing them working as a team and putting the pieces of the puzzle together on how to escape Ember, as well developing a strong friendship. But other than that, there were some pretty interesting parts of the book, and while I personally prefer the first book, I understand where the author was going in regards to the moral of the story. How we should do what we can to keep the peace, and punching back every time you get hit doesn’t bring peace, and only more people get hurt. You can’t fight fire with fire, dummy. You fight fire with water.
