Act of Surrender by Mandy M. Roth

3.0

I unfortunately read some bad reviews of this book before reading it myself. And although I didn't agree with most of them there were some things that ran true.

James had so much backstory to tell, so much that we could have learnt about him in his book. Unfortunately if you are looking for the back story you will get a little sparkle of them but not much. I think I learnt more about Boomer and Striker than James and Laney.

I know that the author relies on you having read the previous books and it's sometimes annoying when you are told the same thing from previous book but just a slight little bit of what happened in the previous ones would have helped. Laney doesn't like the government or "The Man" as she refers to them. Does she mean the normal government, does she mean PSI, does she mean I-ops? It would have been nice to know who she is actually referring to. Then she says James is working for 'the man' and I was like say what?? What drugs you on women so would have been nice to have a little bit of filling.

Then there was the cheesey bits: 'her girly bits wanted his manly bits in a bad way. To the point they were about to beg. And her girly bits had never begged for anything in her twenty-tow years' and ' Laney's legs wrapped around his waist as if they had a mind of their own. Apparently, they were in league with her girly bits and on a mission to get her V-card punched.' This last one seconds before they were attacked by hybrid wolf-vampires.

These books could be sooo good if they focused just a bit more on the story and no so much on the 'Alpha male must find mate'. Casey, Gus and Bill in their conversation with Duke gave so much story in such a short bit of the book. I was like yes give me more and then Laney and James arrive.

This book wets your appetite but leaves you unfulfilled.
