Swamp Thing: Twin Branches
by Maggie Stiefvater
This was actually a really enjoyable comic book! Based on the ratings here, I did not fully expext that, but I shouldn't have doubted that when it comes to Maggie Stiefvater, I'd come to love the (short) story - and the characters especially - anyway.
It follows Alec Holland, a quiet teenage scientist who doesn't fit in, who comes with his (very different) twin brother to live with their cousins on a spring break.
I really liked the characaters! Even though this is a fairly short stand-alone comic book, I thought the characters were real and unique and fun (very much in typical Stiefvater fashion), and the graphic portrayal only enhanced that a 1000%.
I would say, though, don't expect an action-packed (or plot-driven at all) superhero story. In typical Maggie Stiefavter style, this is very much a coming of age story focusing on family/friendship, vibes and growing up.
This comic is really just a celebration of anybody a bit different.
The graphic design of the nature (and everything else) and story also have this really great mysterious, slightly creepy vibe. The colours fit the story so well too.
All in all, a great comic book with some immaculate vibes and characaters.
