Savage Appetites: Four True Stories of Women, Crime, and Obsession
by Rachel Monroe
This is a very messy book, but still worth the read for any true crime fan. More of a meta-true crime book, but still satisfactory.
I think Monroe missed the mark on any cohesive theme she may have been going for. Thematically the four vignettes stand on their own and are only loosely related. Too often the narrative thread winding through each vignette gets lost in the weeds, but the narrative and meta-narrative are still worthy journalistic endeavors, flawed as they may be.
3.5 stars as a standard non-fiction sociology book
4.5 stars as a true crime work and analysis
