I am writing this review a little backwards, starting with my main critique of this book. It felt like I was reading two different books at times. Each part opened with prose like from a fairy-tale, very lyrical and beautiful. It is a style I cannot get enough of. The majority of the book was written in the more typical style of YA fantasy. While both were enjoyable, the contrast was a bit difficult to navigate. But overall I greatly enjoyed this book. I love heists and fantasy, and this was no different. There was lots of action, and I loved the characters, with their archetypes. Mer was so plucky and despite everything that happened she was still very caring. Of course, Fane was my favorite, being the loving dog-dad he is. I loved watching all the characters come together and each showcase their skills. I also liked that we got glimpses into the characters' pasts, Mer's especially. Overall the book was amazing and I highly recommend it. I cannot wait to read The Bone Houses next and experience more of this world.
