The Wallflower, Vol. 1 by Tomoko Hayakawa
2.0

This review covers only the first four volumes, because that is where I gave up, there is no way I'm reading 30+ volumes of this. The premise is pretty simple - four super popular gorgeous guys are offered the opportunity to not pay rent as tenants of a huge mansion, as long as they can turn the landlady's niece into a "proper lady". This is a particular challenge because the niece, Sunako, would rather spend her time watching slasher films and avoiding human company. This setup seems like it would be funny, but it is just not possible to ignore how problematic the premise is - everyone agrees that Sunako does need a makeover, and her worth is tied to her being an archetypical "lady". But what bugged me the most, these four boys live in that mansion rent free and treat Sunako like a maid! They expect her to cook and clean, and only notice there is something wrong with her whenever household chores are not up to snuff. Nothing really happens through four volumes, no character development at all, no plot I can see, and the jokes become repetitive very quickly.
