A Deal with the Elf King by Elise Kova

3.0

“Leave, and I will find you,” I whisper breathlessly in reply. “Leave me here, unsatisfied and yearning, and I will hunt you down, Eldas.”

Hmmm. A Deal with the Elf King has been getting mixed reviews, and I get it.
I get mixed feelings on the read too.
It doesn't feel complete, and I feel like the sense of fantasy magic is not there in the experience of reading.

I understand it is a standalone series, hence why the read was fast and wrapped up in 300 pages, but I feel this plotline deserves a three-book series for it to be amazing.
The beginning started so exciting and such a build-up to what Luella was fated to face in her life.

It gets interesting, curious about the secrets and history of the other queen, and understanding magic and the kingdom; however, it lacks depth and the speciality of the world that makes the book unique. Reading through the plotline, it feels like any other fantasy romance.

I enjoy reading about Luella's journey to understand her magic, her passion and the parallels between her magic and her studies with the queen. We see her grow, and her personality shines throughout the book.
I do wish we get Eldas POV; he is a sweetheart, but I wish we got more on his childhood, feelings, and powers.

Like I said, there was a few plot holes that was missing and could make the book shine if it was address.
Such as Luella's true name, the knowing, enemies of the fae etc. There was so much potential, but it was brushed through.

For a quick romance, I enjoy it but it wasn't my favourite or anything special. I will still continue the series.

“I've loved you since the cottage. since ... I don't know when. Somewhere along the way, I fell in love with you. You and I ... these circumstances we met under have been a bit of a mess. But I love you despite them all"
