Of course learning and trying new things throughout life is beneficial and for the purposes of this book, the author took on several new endeavors, some with his daughter and some on his own (surfing, swimming, jewelry making). Many thoughts in this book are things I need to instill better in my daughter. She sometimes struggles with trying new things and not being good at them right away, and gets easily frustrated.

If it's easy, you're not learning.

The more you try and practice, the more you learn, the more you'll enjoy it.

I am reminded of times my mom and I tried new things together growing up and when I was a teenager. We took a pottery class, learned basket weaving, tried stone rubbing. It was fun to do these things together.
