Reread 2023 :

I'm upping my rating to 4 stars, cause it was such a blast.
I had a cracking time, with Nanny and Granny, discovering the weirdness and dramas of *opera*
It's funny how this book went completely over my head in 2019, cause I thought Granny was hilarious in this one ; her being Lady Esmeralda and having Nanny (as common as muck) at her service, handing out money from the pants department.. what was wrong with 2019 Pea, I wonder.

Read 2019 :

3.5 stars.
I suppose I could give it 4 stars, but I'm trying to be a bit more picky with this series; like, this book is definitely below the last ones I've read. But it's also great entertainment and I enjoyed it immensely, if I compare it with other books I rated 3.5 stars. So it's a bit confusing. In the end, Discworld ratings are not to be compared to other non Discworld books.
I was slowly accepting Granny as a funny character, but the progress were stopped dead with this one. The last couple of books in the witches series helped a lot in the process of appreciating her. Maskerade did the opposite; I found her irritating, not funny and such a bad friend towards Nanny Ogg.
Nanny Ogg is truly my favourite witch, she compensates for all Granny's bad manners. She's hilarious and too good for Esme.
The parody of the Phantom of the Opera was well-thought; even though I know nothing about opera, I had a few chuckles.
Now, I'd like a bit less of the witches, and a bit more about Death, or the City Watch, please..
