The blurb for this book refers to it as ‘feminist high fantasy’ so...sold. There was so much mythology in this book and the storytelling was poetic and absolutely flawless. The story of the Empress of Salt and Fortune is a study in contradictions: it’s beautiful and cruel, a story of both rebellion and loyalty. It will break your heart a thousand times and then put it back together again and make you feel things you can’t put into words. I honestly can’t believe this book is only a bit over 100 pages long; it felt like I watched dynasties rise and fall as I read.
