Heaven Official's Blessing: Tian Guan Ci Fu (Novel) Vol. 1 by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu

5.0

This is going to be a somehow biased review since I've already watched the anime version based on this volume like a hundred times. Hence, I would focus on reviewing the plot itself.

The best word to describe the plot of this book is perfection. It has mystery, thriller, fantasy, romance life struggles, different kinds of relationship, social relevance, and it raises philosophical questions about life and human nature. And it's just the first volume, the first arc, how much more the next seven volumes?

I loved the writing. It always comes full circle. I love how the established parallelism between the two main characters was continuously reflected throughout the entire book. I love how the ending is really unpredictable. It felt almost realistic despite the magical powers, the gods, the ghosts and the monsters. It felt realistic since truly at the end of the day, there's always two sides to a story, two sides to a coin, and several sides to a person. A person's moral and personality is not black and white. It's not simply good or bad.

You will understand what I mean by this when you read the book. It's longer than the bible, yes. But I know it's definitely worth it. Eight volumes? Definitely worth it. I'm starting to guess the eight volumes aren't enough.
