bellaruffell 's review for:
An urgent and inspirational collection of essays by a diverse group of celebrities, activists, and artists about what feminism means to them, with the goal of helping readers come to their own personal understanding of the word.
These essays are personal and each one is unique to the author. Each examines what feminism means to that one person and the closeness or contradictions the individual feels and faces within the feminist movement. This book brings together essays from a number of women from diverse backgrounds, with an acknowledgment of experiences of intersectional feminism; black feminism/identity, ableism, trans-women.
This book was divided into sections to focus on certain elements of the journey of feminism. Many topics are covered from sexism to the history of the waves of feminism to misogyny and the patriarchy.
It is very easy to read, as it does not contain much theoretical feminism of plain collection of historical data without any context whatsoever. The essays are delightful to read, as the length is more than appropriate and can be read in any way.
This is an enjoyable and informative read. However probably not appropriate for someone look to further their feminist eduction, however it is interesting hearing from so many women.
