I desperately wanted this to be a five. Giving this a 2 hurt.
For the good: I like the concept and the world building. The magic system was pretty fleshed out, the politics were also done well. As usual, I love Ben’s prose and his ability to describe everything in detail without overdoing it.
The things I didn’t like: For some reason, I couldn’t really get attached to any of the characters. I felt like I had read Robin in one of Ben’s previous works. The romance fell flat to me and I was just dragging my feet as I continued to read the book. I hoped something would change and I’d be really interested in once a plot twist was introduced, or if a new character came around and it just didn’t happen.
Graphic: Murder, Violence, and Death
