What The Buddha Taught by Paul DemiƩville, Walpola Rahula

hopeful informative reflective medium-paced

Perfect primer to buddhism. Very clear, direct, and easy to follow. This tells you everything you need to know, and nothing you don't, much like Buddha's concise approach to teaching. There are some repetitive concepts, but Rahula mentioned he did this intentionally, both to highlight reoccurring themes and to mirror Buddha's teaching style that is meant to aide in retention.

I followed the authors suggestion of reading the chapters in nonlinear order (Chapter 1,5,7,8,2,3,4,5,6) if you are a novice to this branch of philosophy, and while counterintuitive at first, I do think it helped and the concepts did build on themselves. I also liked the translated passages and sermons from Buddha himself in the last few sections of the book.

Very approachable introduction to Buddhism, highly recommend.
