This companion was a colossal waste of time. Barely anything new was presented and a lot of restating things that were summed up in the last book. The writing was dull, especially the first novella of her parents. I don't feel the story benefitted from these stories. They were exactly what the reader was able to imagine themselves, that's how well they were covered in the 3rd book.
The ending frustrates me bc it is a very Twilight ending. Alyssa has her cake and eats it too. She gets both guys. No one's heart is broken. She gets the best of both worlds, mortal and netherling, living them full and happily. Each guy is understanding of the situation which is odd being that the previous novels show both of them being highly jealous. Alyssa's virginity places a huge role in these stores. She is viriginal for both husbands on their wedding nights (all thanks to her magic). Was this a point that needed to be expressed? Would Morpheus still have her if she was tainted by her marriage to Jeb? Just a frustrating piece of writing.
