Vampire Academy
by Richelle Mead
A lot of reviewers called this book funny, but I didn't get any humor out of it. There's a lot of petty cattiness, slut-shaming, and gossip-mongering. The main character didn't come off as fun or snarky, she sounded like a much younger, more whinier person that she was. Rose's actions always felt forced and out of place. She'd start to do something that made sense in her position, and then would switch gears and do or say something that came off as completely counter-intuitive. The descriptions of both Rose's and Lissa's characters never meshed with their actions. Everything just felt forced and cringe-worthy. The action was slow and tedious. Maybe I'm just too old now for petty teenage books or maybe these characters just don't feel like actual people.
