Deborah Harkenss is slowly becoming a favorite author. I love this series. The characters feel so real and most of them are so lovable. The characters I don't like is mostly because they are like that and they are no the good guys. This and the previous book (A Discovery of witches) are so relaxing to read as they don't have that much action, which I surprisingly love they way that the author did that. I think the books are a bit more character driven but the plot is still not forgotten and constantly there. The story feels like we are actually just following normal people even though it's fantasy. And with the actual historical figures in the book and the great character writing, in multiple occasions after stopping reading, I still felt like that world is real and I actually live in it. Like as if there is actually magic and different creatures.
Talking about magic. Discovering more about the magic system in this book was one of my favorite things to read about. It's just so vivid and intriguing.
I feel like I can ramble forever about how much I enjoyed this book. It's even better than the first one. Can't wait to get to the next one.
