Chasing The Night by Iris Johansen

2.0

This is the tenth book in the series and I guess I came in too late. The author did a fair job of introducing the characters again to those of us who have never read another of the series...but there was still a lot of back story I was lost on. That's my fault.

But just taking it as a story...not that great, OK, but not great. The plot device that really threw me for a loop was the ghost of Eve Duncan's daughter...she visits her mom all the time and helps her solve the crimes??? It was really weird and not what I was expecting. I don't mind paranormal crime fiction...but only if I'm expecting it. OK, to be fair, the ghost of her daughter isn't the main plot device, but still.

It's your typical crime fiction. The main character has a tragic past...her daughter was killed years ago and the killer is still at large, yup check. She has a volatile relationship with her partner, yup check. So in comes a beautiful CIA agent who needs her help to retrieve her son from a psychopathic Russian. I knew where this was going to end before I even got too far into it. I just didn't know all the details. It's nothing special, but if you're just looking for some fluffy crime fiction entertainment this one will do.

Thanks to Goodreads for letting me review the ARC.
