The Mystery of Nevermore by C.S. Poe

4.0

How many "gay amateur sleuth gets involved in murder, much to the displeasure of his cop boyfriend" books do I need to read before it starts getting ridiculous? Well, I don't actually care because I'm on a murder mysteries roll and I think I could read a hundred of these without getting bored.
Having read and completed The Adrien English Mysteries just a few weeks ago I can admit there are quite a few similarities, character-wise especially, but again, it definitely didn't bother me because I absolutely love this very specific genre of amateur detectives getting into trouble.
I loved both of the MCs. Sebastian is sassy and clever and, consistent with the Amateur Sleuth 101 Manual, acts like an idiot and gets himself nearly murdered. Calvin is probably the sweetest cop I've ever read about and ugh, I love him, even though he desperatly needs some therapy.
The murder mystery was actually quite a bit more gruesome than what I was expecting but I ADORED all the Poe references and macabre atmosphere. I also loved the side characters and I'm hoping to see a lot more of Quinn in the next one.
Speaking of which, I'm going to start it right away.
