The Witches' Blade by A.K. Mulford

3.0

“you are a monster … then we are as wicked as each other, princess.” – a.k. mulford

while i did like the first book in the series more, i did enjoy watching the expansion of this world. unpopular opinion, but i also liked rua’s unlikability (if that’s even a word). she very much reminded me of nesta’s character in acotar who while i won’t defend her actions i can understand them. i feel like considering everything she went through it’s realistic for rua to be so cynical and distrusting.

there were some parts of the book where i just found myself a little bored which i didn’t feel in the last book. i can tell that mulford used the same basic structure for this book which was kind of underwhelming because i could predict a lot of what was going to happen. i also just didn’t understand balorn’s infatuation with rua; it felt random and like a convenient plot device. i would consider this a mid-tier fantasy book, but still very enjoyable nonetheless.
