Frankly, I didn't think to write a review at first because I was too tired. But this book is the only thing I've been thinking about since yesterday, and I thought I should talk ab it, bcs I want to.
I just cannot help but think ab the different things the female lead was feeling, one of them being the relationship she has w her mum. We see how she has Mondays off and she spends them w her mum but there's this underlying tension as well and a sense of estrangement. That one part where she had to be firm on her decision to leave rather than staying when her aunt was in town, that one was so significant and relatable for me. And so many other places. The constant comments from her mum for getting a plastic surgery bcs that'll make her more 'acceptable' but also her mum ironically defending her and telling her aunt that she is so pretty and doesn't need it, that contrast was also so relatable. The female lead can't leave her mom and go to Seoul, there's that sense of loyalty while there being a sense of estrangement from what always has been and longing for a sense of self and what could be is just what hits so much in the gut, especially as a 20-something elder daughter in a brown household. GAH. LOVED IT.
