I'm honestly not sure whether I loved or hated this book. I enjoyed it, but I wanted to throw my kindle across the room many, many times, or reach through the screen to shake the characters.

The one thing I appreciate most is the self-awareness though. Almost all of the frustrations I had, the things that pissed me off - the author was well aware of them and accounted for them, either in the original version of the book or later in Jamie's POV. SO many times in books like this there are plotholes, things that make you scream "why didn't you just do this/that?!" that never get addressed so they just continue to bother you. That wasn't the case here... mostly.

Spoiler-blocking the rest because I need to talk about this or I'll go nuts.
First of all, I loved that Jamie called out B for being selfish, because damn, girl. I get she needed to deal with her grief and her complicated feelings around her father, but three years?! And then later not wanting a long-distance relationship... I understand it, I do. And I understand putting her career first. But at the same time... don't take it for granted that a guy's gonna wait that long for you. Also, when she got the job offer and accepted it? I get that she was working towards that and it was a great moment for her, but she could have taken time to think over her options, including using that offer as leverage to get into a publisher house in Florida. For someone so addicted to Jamie/Whiskey, she sure didn't consider his role in her life while making big decisions.

And then Jamie... he never really fought for her. He called her a bunch after she left school, but are you really telling me he never went back to Florida to visit family in that time? Why didn't he seek her out earlier? When they saw each other again, it was completely by chance. And he could've flown to Pittsburgh any number of times to have face-to-face conversations if he really wanted her instead of just begging her to be with him on the phone. And he hadn't been together with Angel that long when B showed up - he was happy, but it was early enough that he could've made a decision to break things off and go for the woman he really wanted.  And finally... A PAY PHONE?!?! Sure, he couldn't call her directly, but C'MON, DUDE. Could he not have gotten a message to her through Jenna or his sister?! He really left her twisting in the wind for that long after they finally said they'd be together? And he expected her to wait that long? That's the one thing that never really had a satisfactory explanation yet it's such a big thing.

So yeah, overall, they kept getting in their own ways, all in the name of... selfishness and lack of communication, despite being best friends and being able to talk about anything and agreeing to be honest with each other.
