Broken Souls and Bones by LJ Andrews

3.0

Let’s start with the positives: the opening was strong. It pulled me in with mystery and intrigue right away. Lyra’s silver scars, Roark’s brooding silence, and the looming danger of the king’s obsession with magic? Yes, please!

The world building was interesting, and the writing itself was solid. Plus, the romance had that slow burn dynamic I usually eat up. However, the pacing dragged. The book slowed after the first 20 percent, and it didn’t pick up again until the last 10 percent.

The love story was sweet but not as emotionally gripping as I wanted it to be. The ending did shock me, but not in a way that made me desperate for the next book. It was one of those “Huh… okay” moments rather than an “OMG, I NEED THE SEQUEL NOW” reaction.

This story was solid, but I wanted more from Lyra's character.
