The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison

3.5

Everyone knows Toni Morrison is a legendary writer, and her debut The Bluest Eye is no exception. Her writing is devastating and haunting, and it makes a story that’s already devastating and haunting that much more poignant. You feel for eleven-year-old Pecola, but you also feel for the people around her and the time they’re in. And then you question humanizing the people who put Pecola in this situation. The Bluest Eye isn’t an easy, fun read.  But it’s a peak into human nature that you’re not going to get from just any book, and Toni Morrison does it again and again.
